Hey Clooney I'm trying to fix a hyd leak on my 530 and I'm kinda confused. The leak seems to be coming from directly behind the load control yoke. From looking at my shop manual all I can tell is that there is a spring behind it. Is there a seal or o-ring or something. Also my manual tells me in order to remove yoke I have to dash pot piston closed with a special tool,I'm having a hard time fiquring this out because in the book it looks like the piston is only accessible from the front of the housing but the book says you don't have to remove housing from tractor to fix. I'm hoping to be able to fix it without removing housing. Any help would be appreciated, I've never been in this section of the tractor before and its seems no one at local John Deere has either, so they can't answer my questions. Thanks in advance

Brandon, I have only one more suggestion and that is to get a friend to help you. It will be fun and it will be easier if you need a third hand.

Good Luck, Aaron

Brandon, I haven't ever done one while still on the tractor but there shouldn't be a problem doing it while still on the tractor. ~There is a seal on the load control shaft where the shaft comes through the side of the housing that is probably leaking & will have to be replaced.
~It's been a long time since I have done one but if I remember correctly the seat, battery box & top cover will have to come off, then the dash pot will need to have the relief valve removed (caution: don't mess with the adjustment, just remove the valve by it's base with a crows foot wrench), then make a piece of bent strap metal to bolt down & hold the dash pot piston in place after depressing it some with a big bar. You will have to unbolt the lever that pushes on the dash pot & (I think) drive the roll pin from the load yoke (the one on the outside of the housing in the center of the housing), then after removing the shaft access cover, screw a long bolt in the load control shaft end & either pry it out or pull it out with a slide hammer. After the shaft is out you will see a seal in the side of the housing where the shaft went through.
~Mark all the shaft to lever positions so there is no second guessing on re-assembly & a manual would be a pretty good investment due to the fact that I havent done this operation in years & probably forgot something.

Brandon:

I looked at the parts book, and it shows an oil seal on the control yoke shaft, and o-rings on the dashpot piston. I can't say if they can be removed and serviced from the back of the tractor, but it appears so from the drawing.

If your dealer can get you a copy of the parts book page 225 it will show you alot.
