I just got a JD 430S that has been restored and is in really good shape except for a few details. One of which is the throttle does not want to stay put, it sort of flops around. How do you adjust the friction disks? I have looked at the parts manual and while it shows them it isn't much help as to how to adjust them. Please don't tell me I have to take the hood off, that looks like quite a job.

Bguy, there is no adjustment on the lever. New friction discs , or maybe the spring out near the radiator is the only locations that will stop your problem. Yep--you have to remove the hood and possibly the gas tank to replace the discs.

Thanks for the bad news Wayne! I guess I'll wait awhile before I remove the hood and make sure there's nothing else I want to do while I have it off. Thanks for the reply.
