Hey guys I've been restoring my dad's model 530 and we finally got the motor back from the machine shop, put it back together and started driving it aroud looking for any leaks. Unfortunately the one and only leak we found is in a place we know little about. At the rear of the tractor where the third link hooks up, the service book calls it a load control yoke. We have a I&T service manual, but it doesn't explain to well about how to go about fixing it. The best we can tell there is a big spring and piston behind yoke along with some o- rings, I suspect that must be where my leak is coming from. I assume the whole rear assembly of the tractor has to come off, but I'm a little intimidated at doing it and I can't find anyone around here, including the folks at John Deere who has ever been in one and can help direct me. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yes this is a big job. The seal needs to be replaced on the shaft. The seat assembly\battery box, and top of hydraulic unit needs to be removed. Then remove hydraulic hose connection plate. Behind it you will see a shaft. However, before you pull this shaft you have to block the Dash pot in closed position or it will pop out. I would strongly suggest that you get JD's service manual on this section. It is relatively complex. I added the shaft and yoke to my 620 as it didn't have a 3-pt on it from the factory. It isn't all that big a deal if you follow the directions and understand what is going on. I can send you pictures of what the inside looks like as I took some while I had mine apart. There is a tool to be made to hold the dash pot in place while you do the procedure. I have one of these tools that came with my tractor as the dash pot had to be held in place all the time until I put this shaft and yoke in my 620.

I did my 530 however Had the complete unit off. But as I recall the dash piston comes forward and can get out of position...you then definitely will have to remove and take the dash piston assy off...I believe there is a bracket or device you can make to hold it in while your're changing..this is low in the unit and hard to get at....but I believe you could change on the tractor...as I recalled my o ring was flat and was seeping....good luck...

Brandon: it's kinda a bear to fix...you have to take the seat and top off hydraulic unit...also probably pull the lift shaft...the leak is coming from a pin O ring...the IT manual tells you more about it and get a parts manual also....for a beginner it would be a real choir...get some advise from a local restorer if possible.

Do I have to take the complete hydraulic section off of tractor or can I get the piston and spring out from the top after the shaft that holds the yolk in place is out.

Chuck has pretty much said it. Your hydralic outlets also have to be taken off the main housing. There is a plate behind them that you take off and in there is a shaft in there. I belive that shaft has to be pulled then the yoke will come out. I belive the seals that are leaking are on that shaft. once you take the yoke out the springs will come out. There is a big spring and then a little spring that goes in the big one. Sorry i can't be more clear its been along time since i was in one and i hope i haven't confused you more.
