Sir, I take the tractor you are working on is an early 4020 diesel that was originally a 24 volt system. I will (assume) that the tractor was previously converted and had a alternator before and you are just wanting to know how to connect the wiring to it. If it was not more conversion work will be necessary. From your description I take that the alternator that you are using is a Delco. First lets make sure that the dash light will work because the way I am going to have you wire it up the light must work or the alternator will not. To check the charging dash light turn the ignition switch key on and then ground the red wire coming out of harness at the alternator. The dash light should light. If not replace bulb, repair circuit or whatever it needs to make it work by grounding the red wire. Once you know the dash light will work, hook both the brown and blue wires at the alternator harness together and connect them both to the large output terminal of the alternator. Take the red wire from harness that I previously had you ground and connect it to the white wire from your regulator pigtail. Take the red wire from your pigtail and connect it to the same output post of the alternator where I had you connect the brown and blue wire previously. With these connections hooked up turn the key switch on and the dash light should light, start tractor and rev engine to around 1200 rpm and the dash light should go out indicating the alternator is charging. If this is not enough information post back and I will try to help more. Good Luck Dave W.
