This is probably a stupid question , but I have got to take the right hand final drive off my 40S . Does anyone have a clue what it would weigh ?

Thanks!

I have a 420U and a 40C and have had the final drives off the 40C several times and they are about the same size as the 420U and 40S. I was able to handle them alone and I am not a big guy. Use some sort of lift or support and it is no problem. It works real nice if you can support them from overhead on a set of chain falls or come-a-long. Make a tripod if necessary. Be sure that the rest of the tractor is extremely well supported. Reapeat the last statement. Also remove the rim and the hub if you can. That is where the real weight is. You have to be able to slide it out and back in with no pressure on the shaft or you will destroy the seal. Good luck and take your time. Check the brakes, bearings and seals while you are in there. Good luck and be sure to support the tractor safely.

Thanks !
I am new on the JD scene and need all the help I can get !

One of the guys at work has an engine hoist that I can borrow so I should be able to get the drive off and on without problem . The wheels should not be a problem as I have wrestled my Ford wheels a few times by myself .

I have got to fix the right brake and replace a broken stud as well . Just had no idea if the final drive was real heavy or not .

Thanks Again !
