Our feature at this years' Threshermen's Reunion is JD,so we are restoring a B for our annual raffle. It has the six speed trans.- I think casting # is B1840R ,but when the left side cover was removed the gears were missing for 5-6 drive. This tractor appears to have come out on steel- front wheel rims have been welded onto spokes and rear wheel hubs have Brant on them-clamp onto axle with U-bolts, and rims look similiar to a MM rim -steel center /small bolt pattern. Guessing this may have been a jobber conversion -Any one else seen that on a B. Also- did JD leave out the 5-6 speed when a tractor of that vintage was ordered on steel or were they removed later. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks ----Bill

1941-47 "B" tractors shipped on steel wheels did not have 5th and 6th gears installed, but used the 6-speed quadrant. Deere did furnish a kit to enable 5th and 6th gears to be installed if the tractor was converted to rubber tires.

Thank-you Mr.Nobody. I was guessing as much, but is good to know that's the way it was. Now all we have to do is find some gears!
