Hourmeter Rotation

The hourmeter (speedmeter, or whatever the name) on my 80 was disconnected before we got it. The line is gone. I would like to test it, before I start searching for another line.

My dad says we can put a drill in the end to test. However, which way does it rotate? Clockwise, or counter clockwise? (looking from the back).

What is clockwise? My digital watch doesn't help! Kidding!

Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon-----

As always, Clooney is right; same way as the needle turns. If you get it mixed up and turn it the wrong way, you won't hurt the tach head. Just reverse your drill and try again.

Brandon, I'm not familiar with the tac on the 80 but all the other tac's I have worked on have the input shaft spinning the same direction as the needle moves (kind of picture the input shaft as directly hooked to the needle & spin it in the direction that would move the needle away from the stop pin & towards higher numbers)

Thanks Clooney! I was thinking the same thing, but I thought I would check. It does make sense...
