I losts the reverse in my Quad-range.
got the transmission cover off and the reverse pinion is gone. I have a technical manual and I can go in.
What I would like know is what esle could I Find wrong?
Mike at mother deere told me that 4030's are nothing more the a 2520 with a 6.
still a good tractor used lightly.

The biggest complaint I have on a 4030 is that you have to split it at the clutch housing AND the transmission split to get at the top shaft. There are two bolts inside the case that hold the transmission to the clutch housing that have to be removed. If you are lucky enough to have a 4030 synchro-range, remove the traction clutch valve housing and you can reach the bolts through the hole. With a quad-range, the two speed components are in the way and you cannot do this.

Look over all the shift collars, forks, and gears on the bottom shaft real close while you have the tractor split--now is the time to fix it while you have it apart. Ditto the other guys on inspecting the charge pump--if in doubt, replace it.

A 4030 is a good little tractor, just go easy on it, use Hy-Gard hydraulic oil, and you will get along fine.

Yes, the 4030 is not much more than a light tractor, makes a good chore tractor. However I wouldn't compare it to a 2520. One thing to keep in mind is the shift linkage(not so much on the Quad range as the synchro range). There is an update kit that is worth putting in (consisting of the synchronizers and shifter for the high and low range) if you are planning on keeping the tractor for a while( if it hasn't already been installed). Since you will have the transmission pump out to remove the top shaft, take it apart and inspect it for wear. Could save you some headaches down the road. Look at the countershaft gear good where that reverse gear runs. Also after you get the top shaft out, inspect the shift collars and teeth on the pinion shaft. Good luck.
