Another guy posted a message to see what color the rear light should be. I have been wondering whic black to use? Gloss or Semi-gloss? What is original? Thanks!

Semi gloss, for head light, rear light and axles.

Axles were left unpainted. The wheel centers were made to be adjustable and when you adjusted them, they would remove the paint. They were originally unpainted, knowing that paint would make them harder to adjust anyway, and would only be removed the first time you adjusted the rear tread. The best way to "restore" would be to either leave them unpainted or else clear coat them.

The lights were semi-gloss black.

It works well to leave the axles bare and wipe them down with an oily rag from time to time.

Another method, not as neat looking but still very effective, is to coat them with grease, wrap them in burlap and wind some twine around it to tie it onto the axle. Not pretty, but it sure will make the tractor look authentic.

The bit about clearcoating is/was a suggestion I've heard regarding show tractors. For one that I'd USE, you're right and it's a good idea too, especially for anyone who has ever tried to unstick those wheels from the axles!
