A question for you alls can a "60"standard be converted to all fuel,as you know gas is helishly expensive over in the UK and it would be handy for ploughing. I now fergi,s used to make a conversion using a spacer head gasket to reduce compresion,i dont know about the gas manifold and duplex carb though? regards nigel burgess

nigelB, you could do it but even with high fuel costs I doubt it would be worth it.
~You will need to lower the compression with either a block spacer, new pistons, machined pistons, head spacer or?
~You will need an all-fuel carburetor or rebuild yours with the all-fuel parts.
~You will need an all-fuel hot manifold.
~You will need a different fuel tank with 2 tanks, or rig a way to have a separate starting tank for gasoline to start & warm it up.
~You will need a good warm thermostat or shutter system to allow the coolant temperature to be kept above 200-210* while burning other than gasoline.
~You will probably have to remove the fuel tank heat shield under the fuel tank.
~You will need to have a way to drain the excess fuel off that enters the crankcase during use.
~You will need to retard the ignition timing some.
~You will probably still need something I missed here.
~Even after modifying your 60 to burn tractor type fuel you still won't be able to use diesel fuel or heavy heating oil as they won't work worth a darn, & will probably be stuck with a mixture using part gasoline or burn pure kerosene. ~Depending on your soil & type of plow you are pulling you will probably have to go down in plow size or a lower gear due to lower horse power & might not gain much due to longer run times to cover the same ground.

What is the local price and avalability of LP (propane) or natural gas(methane/CNG) as well as tractor gas, kerosene & #2 farm diesel?

Nigel where are you located, I assume those are US$ as well? Any natural gas avalable anywhere? I wish kerosene was that cheap here for my turbine generator. I'm suprised there is no farm/off road gasoline or maybe there's just too much temptation? The price on LP would require hundreds of hours use per year in order to payback. Are there any 620/630's avalable, they were the most efficient or very close, of any gasoline fueled tractors? For the difference in kerosene price it's tempting to find a blend of gasoline/kerosene that the tractor will start & run on without detonation. A 195F thermostat, shutters, block heater & high energy multiple spark ignition would improve the odd's of success.
