Does anyone know where I might be able to find a 830 Deere Self Propelled swather here in North Central Texas. I live about 60 miles north of Dallas. Looking to expand a baling business this year and would like to look into going SP. Also any pros and cons on the machine would be helpfull.

If memory serves, that's a draper (canvas) machine. Ran Dad's 10'& my uncles 12' for years. The narrow conditioner can be plugged if the operator backs up, builds a wad of hay then drives forward. The final chain drives are fine if kept adjusted. A loose chain wrapped around the shaft inside the enclosed housing is a real treat. The slide tensioners on the undriver rollers can rust/gum-up with leaves & plant sap. The top will tighten & the bottom will be loose with the canvases wearing on the bottom. Not a major job to disasemble, clean & lightly grease. The pre-load springs on the platform lift cylinders are often left in slackest position by many operators. This makes the platform more difficult to slide on the ground, shortens the life of the wear shoes, wears the drive train, wastes fuel & increases damage when groundhog holes are hit. A pair of bolts hold a circular clamp on the cylinder housing.Slide them up the cylinder body to bear platform weight until the cuterbar is just short of bouncing during normal travel. The slant six is reliable to the point of boring, fuel efficient & doesn't overheat. The belt drive system will climb any hill reasonable if kept clean & adjusted.

Thanks for the information. The 830's that I have seen have had auger platforms on them but I know you could get the draiper header for it too. Just so happens I have the Dealer book on hay equipment with them in it. Where are you loacated at? If you think of anything else please feel free to write to [email protected] Gary

So much for my memory, the swathers at home are 800's not 830's.
