I am restoring a model b and when i started, it had already been converted to a 12 volt system. I have forgotten how it goes back together. The magneto no longer has the coil in it. I have never done one before and if someone out there can tell me step by step what to do i would really appreciate it.

Adam, we can help you get that "B" wired to start & run again but will have to know approximately what year it is..

~What it has a for a generator or alternator?.. If a generator? what's the generator's stamping number, what numbers or writing is on the voltage regulator?... If an alternator what brand & type of alternator [there should be some numbers on it]. Is it a mid 1980's GM Delco?

~What you have for a mag/distributor on it...It sounds like your mag or distributor has been converted to an external coil.. Is the mag/distributor ROUND? If so it is supposed to have an external coil..If the mag/distributor cap is oblong or square & is held on with screws it probably has been converted to an external coil.. If there are any numbers or writing on the coil we will need that also.. If it has a cap held on with screws does it have a mechanical advance in it [can you turn the spark rotor & feel spring pressure in one direction?]

~Bottom line is: we need to know what you have, what it has on it & what you want to end up with...

~Remember those B's came as 6 volts positive ground with a generator & an internal coil mag or distributor... Anything that doesn't fit that description we will need to know EXACTLY what you have to help you get it going..

Adam Im not sure what your asking??? You need to know how to wire the whole tractor (about what year is it)??? or re assemble the mags coil or what??? What mag is it??? and I guess it now has a 12 volt generator and voltage regulator or what??? Is it pos or neg grounded???

If the mag needs a coil and its a Wico C or XH, the coil surrounds an iron core in its center and the iron core is held into the mags case by clip/mounts on each side. The lil enameled wire goes to a ground, maybe on one of the coil clip mounting screws, and the heavier longer insulated wire goes to the points where the condensor is also wired. If the points appear used, I would replace them and the condensor and clean any rust off the rotor etc.

Post back or E mail me at [email protected] and describe your question a little more and I can e mail you a wirign diagram or what info you need.

Good luck n God Bless ya

John T
