The clutch on my B doesn't snap into engagement...it mushes in...as if it's not quite going "over center". When I disengage it it comes out with a pretty good snap. I've read most of the stuff in the archives on this, and I have replaced the dogs and the toggles to no avail. I've also checked the fork shaft for cracks [read that in the archives]. I've also adjusted the three castle nuts till I'm blue in the face. It seems like the only thing left is the bronze collar. I checked it for wear, and yes, it's about ten one thousandths below spec. Is this enough to cause my mushy clutch? I ask because a new collar is $107.00 smackers and I don't want to waste that kind of money. Thanks

Andrus, sometimes the mushy feel is about all you can get unless you want to spend big money. If it works ok, stays engaged & doesn't slip you might want to leave it alone.
~From what you have told us & already done, your problem is probably either worn sockets in the operating sleeve or the "Dog" pins have worn the holes oblong in the cast ears on the back of the pulley & changed their position in relation to the toggles & operating sleeve.
~If you really want to TRY to make it better, before installing a new operating sleeve try grinding .025" from the outer (pulley) side of the operating sleeve to see if that will let the toggles go over center farther (sometimes that will do wonders for the feel & lock-in). Also make sure the "dog" pivot pins are not worn & the holes in the cast ears of the pulley aren't worn oblong or oversized (I usually drill mine out with a small angle drill & short bit & make larger diameter pins to fit tighter in the ears)
~You didn't say anything about replacing the 3 adjusting bolts but wear on the surface that contacts the "dogs" can have an effect on how the clutch feels & locks-in.
