Ah yes, EVERYONE's favorite tractor, the 930 CASE!
Jumps tall buildings with a single bound!
More powerful than a speeding locomotive!

Which 930 CASE are we talking about here?

The regular 930 case had 81 diesel pto hp and 71 gas pto hp!
The 930 CK had 85.39 Gas and 86 Diesel pto hp!

I really think that the CASE tractor these folks are hallucinating could beat a 95hp John Deere 4020 was the 1030, not the 930!

Of course, you could hop one of the CASES up to levels greatly in excess of stock, like say bolting a turbo on it and turning up the fuel racks, and then comparing it to a bone stock 4020. That would also sound real good to the case fans--until their beloved hot rodded tractor met a 4020 with the same kinds of modifications (heheheh)!

Bottom line: A 4020 had aproximately ten more horsepower than a 930CK. There is no way that the 930 can overcome that much difference without serious help. Certainly it cannot if both tractors are STOCK.

Moving right along, do any CASE owners want to discuss reliability issues? A good starting question would be: "How long can one expect a hopped up CASE 930 to hold together without requiring engine and tranny work?" Some possible answers (multiple choice): a.)2 hours, b.) 2 days, c.) two weeks or d.) two months!

Another possible debate topic: "How many CASE 930 tractors would you have to sell in order to buy a John Deere 4020?" Again (multiple choice answers)
a.) 2 b.) 3 c.) 4 d.) 5 or more!

It has been fun. Remember, THIS IS THE JOHN DEERE BOARD! Don't expect me to love a CASE HERE!

What??? You are admitting I was right. Did you not read far enough in The Book or did you find a More Accurate Book. Like I said - When my 930 was brand new it had 91hp. on the day I brought it home from the dealership. The pump was factory sealed and was never touched then or ever. Four years later it had 94hp. Once I got 95hp.-but only once. But ten years later it still had 94hp. I put 4000hr. on it at that hp.without any problems, so cut the crap and quit running down a good tractor and quit dreaming. A 930 is heavier than a 4020 and has more traction and more lugging power and so will keep right along side your 4020 any time without any turbo or anything else you might want to suggest. They came from the factory set like that to compete with the 4020's and 806's, and compete they did. Why can't you just believe the truth . The 1030's came out at 105 hp. and a lot more weight and were way above this hp. class. You're only making yourself look bad. There was and still are 30 series tractors working around here. A friend of mine has 2-930's and a 1030, 2 of them have loaders and he uses them all the time. So what if he can buy 2 for 1 over a 4020. He sure doesn't mind to have 2 tractors -one to load bales in the field and one to unload them in the yard instead of running one 4020 up and down the road instead of a truck-worth one 4020. A lot of people see green in the form of $$ in their pocket not in color of a tractor and the green in their pocket is much easier to take to the bank or buy food with. What changes did JD make to the 4010 engine when they hopped it up to a 4020 -- Oh yeah - they changed the 1 to a 2 and got 10 more hp. or is there a turbo hidden somewhere ?? Give it a rest!!

I don't care about either but wanted to say that just besause one tractor is rated at a higher horse power than another it doesn't necessarily mean it will out work the other. Ecpecially as close in horsepower as these two tractors are. Tractors with a longer stroke and more torque will usually fare better at tillage work than one without as much torque. transmission gear ratio, tire size and weight play into this roll also. I don't want to start another brand war so these tractors will be called brand x and brand z. Both are the same year and both owned by me. X is 72 hp and z is 85 hp. X has a bigger stroke and two cylinders less than Z. Plowing, mowing, working ground, and even running a irrigation pump X will out work Z day in and day out. Just because a book says it maybe that way on a dyno it don't always add up to that in the field.

just my .02

I love ALL colors, but to be honest. a good AC 190 will put a little fear in all the models mentioned here...and this'll make ya sick, here in Upstate, NY, there is a guy that pulls a Belarus(don't know what model as I don't keep up on 'em) that sends all the makes/models we have been talking about, scurrying for their trailers when he shows up at the fairs! case later model i would have too say would out pull 4020. BUT if u need a hard pulling machine which would pull the pair into the ground then go with the 806

Here is an opinion. Look around and tell me how many 930 Case tractors you see still being used then tell me how many John Deere 4020`s you see. I bet there are more 4020`s in use today than all the Case models combined!

Here in north central Ill , late '60's there were 45% 806's , 40% 4020's and 15% the rest including Case , MM , Oliver and Allis . That would be in a 8-10 mi radius of here .
The 806D's , no matter how you looked at it , ruled on a 5 bottom plow . The 4020's were the best all around tractor but lacked a couple horses on that end . I'm talking non turbo , for both .
The 930's , three of them close by here , were no better than the 4020 for power , and lots less handy and dependable . Heads cracked and trans problems on the two near by , traded for 70's .
Today , the Cases are gone , there are a very few 806's left and a lot of the 4020's yet especially on the livestock farms .
In the 70's lots of Case's were sold because of the deals the Company Stores were doing and Deeres were scarce and expensive . Hardly any 70 series cases left , lots of transmission and rear end problems . The 90 series were better , some of them around .
For the last ten years it is about even , Red and Green . Of the tractors of the 70's and 80's there are still an awful lot of 30 and 40 series Deeres as the main horses here ,way more than anything else . Two of the big operators here that have all Red eq even have 4020's . The 4020 replaced the Farmall M as the chore tractor here .
The 930 was never a match for a 4020 no matter how you compared them , the 806 , except for being a little less handy , was a pretty good horse . I still WOULDN'T part with my old 4020 , I guess you either love a 4020 or hate it seems like . JIM

Maybe where you are that`s true. But here in west-central Ohio there are more 4020`s than all Case tractors combined. Usable 30 and 70 series Case tractors are a rare commodity in this neck of the woods. But Jr. Roberts and several other boneyards have plenty of parts to restore your 30 or 70 series Case prize!

Well, Scott around here (Oklahoma) there are still a lot of old Case tractors plugging away. I've got a 970 that still runs a round baler through about 2800 4X6s every year. Good, reliable and cheap. Quite a few of my neighbors still use 930s, 970s and 1070s on loaders and the like. Oh and BTW I've got a couple 4020s, too.

Haven't checked the Case post yet today but last night they were tearing our 4020's up pretty bad .
I might get brave and go there tonight . JIM
