out of curiosity I see in the photo ads section a JD G 4-sale that's been converted from elec. start to hand start. My question is why would someone go that way, especially a G with no comp. relief valve (that I could see), that is almost 400 c.i.?? I've never known anyone that had a hand start 'G' so I don't know how hard they were to crank. Anyone out there have any experience with a h/c 'G' and is it a wise decision to go from elec. to hand start, especially this model of JD? Thanks from warm & sunny NE; it's supposed to reach almost 70 today! (Sat. 1/26)

My dad has a 38 G and it has the pressure relief valves. As a kid it took all my weight to move that flywheel around. Luckily it hit on the first turn or two. I kind of like the hand starts because of simplicity plus it sometimes was the only engine that would start when it got cold outside. Never had to buy batteries. It is also a bit nostalgic.
