Hi guys:

I have a lead on a 4020 gas with powershift and was wondering what it would take to put in a 404 naturally aspirated engine. Any pointers/ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I would bet that it is possible, but before you do, just consider this: The price "premium" for a DIESEL 4020 over a comparable GAS 4020 is likely to be something like $2000-3000. The price of the Diesel engine, purchased by itself is likely to be near $5000. You'd have considerable "labor" charges on top of this, plus the cost of replacing things like the throttle linkage, wiring harness, adding a second battery box, etc. I wouldn't go to the trouble of swapping engines and use a "salvage" engine of unknown but running condition. My suggestion would be to sell the gas tractor to someone else and just go out and buy a diesel 4020. There ARE some good 4020s out there that DON'T cost $13,000!
I know, because I bought a really nice '68 Diesel 4020 for $7500 (6300 hours, DualV, NF,SR)from a dealer, so it can be done. JMHO

There weren't to many of those made, might be worth
more as a collector tractor.Diesels are very easy
to find.

here where i live there arent any 4020 gas,so ive never seen one.i do know that the throttle linkage would have to be changed because the are on opposite sides under the dash.depending on what the 404 comes out of could also cause some extra work such as changing the crank pulley but i think they are the same on a gas or diesel 4020.i dont think it would be a difficult swap
