I have a '41 B that needs some carb work, and I'm looking for opinions on carburetor rebuilders. The three I've talked with so far are Robert's Carburetor Repair, Denny's Carb Shop and Burrey Carburetor Service.

Has anyone had experience with these folks?

Thanks in advance,

Stan

Thanks to all for the replies and the advice.

This reminds me of the discussions I had with my buddy when we were restoring the beast in the first place. He thought the fan blades should be yellow, but I thought green. We argued about if for a long time.

The first time I took it to a show I found a note taped to it saying, "I still think the fan should be the other color". Didn't matter which I did, did it?

Again, thanks for the thoughts.

Stan

I could give you Robert's video. Then you could learn how to use a little piece of wood to hold carb as you work on it. Also no need to clean passage way's out, but make d@@@n sure you sand blast and a nice bright paint job. Sarcasm, you bet. Fix it your self, gasket set is 7or8 bucks.

Stan - If you are willing to 'learn', Deere carbs aren't that difficult to navigate, unless the stems are broken. For tools, you will need an impact screwdriver (most times you just need the leverage that the fat, heavy handle can provide, a good set of torch-tip cleaners and a $5.00 slide hammer to remove the nozzle. Both Roberts and Burrey are fairly expensive(good quality), with Roberts being terribly slow. I'd personally stay away from Denny's - I've fixed a few 'professionally-rebuilt' carbs for friends that have either bought outright or sent theirs in for rebuild.

If you would like a blow-by-blow of how to perform the job, send me an e-mail & I'll be happy to oblige.

if ya have any patience do it youself. A bucket of carb cleaner and a kit will run you 30$ The only special tool you need is an impact screwdriver to remove the pin holding the float. PATIENCE is the key.

I've dealt with Burrey and Roberts and neither are cheap. Burrey was much faster, but you'll be hard pressed to beat Robert's for quality. My carb looked like brand new when it came back from Robert's and worked perfectly - 14 weeks later.
