I am trying to get the bolt out. It it the bolt that the clutch arm pivots on. I am using a 7 ton capacity gear puller with heat. As I try to press the bolt out (towards the clutch arm) the head of the bolt just smashes in,

Has anyone else had this much trouble? Has anyone tried drilling it out and chipping out the ribbed part? Any ideas other than pulling off the gear cover?

Put your gear puller back on, apply some tension, then heat the casting (a propane torch is sufficient), spray both ends of the bolt with PB Blaster when hot and tap gently with a hammer. I have not taken these out, but I just removed the floor pan on my A using a punch to turn the screws, first to loosen then tighten the screws. One took a second application of heat and Blaster, on one of the screws. When the oil hits the warm metal it cools it, but it also draws the blaster into the joint. The screws looked like the previous owner had turned a psychotic beaver with carbide teeth on the screws before I started.

Bozo, thanks for the advice. It took MAP gas for heat, three doses of heat and PB Blaster with the puller and the hammer to get it out.

It is a 39B. The manual says to take the casting off, support the casting and tap the bolt out. It sounds easy but it ain't.
