3020 Steering-Turns slow to right sometimes

I have got it running after sitting for a couple of years. At first it would seem that the steering wheel had hit a stop after only turning a little to the right, but the wheels would turn after I held the steering wheel in the same position for a couple of seconds, and the front tires would turn all the way to the right if I held this position. It didn't always do this, and got some better driving it. I bled the air out of the steering column with a tygon tubing dumping in the hydrolic filler tube as stated in my 3020 shop manual. It improved but didn't go away. I've just changed the hydrolic oil, and removed the screen in the sump. It was clean, and the oil looked clean. The old filter didn't have anything in it but oil like it is supposed to.

Now remember,it don't always do this, and it's only when it's turning to the right. My question is this: Did I bleed the column long enough? I only saw a small amount of air in the clear tubing when I first turned it to the right while bleeding it. I let it run about 5 minutes and stopped because I didn't see any more air. I've looked at the lines around the steering motor, and don't see any damage, or leaks anywhere in the system. The hydrolics work great, the lift is strong too. I haven't bled it since I changed the oil. Now the steering wheel turns all the way, but the wheels still take a couple of seconds to catch up. (the steering wheel started turning all the way to the right after it had run for the first time after about 15 minutes.) Any advice from someone that has had the same problem would be great. This is the only 3020 around here with the RollaMatic front end. It don't look as if it has ever been snapped off. The steering wheel has never turned on it's on. Thanks in Advance; Barney in South Ga.

Barney, the problem is the o-rings in the steering motor are shot and this lets the trapped oil for right turns bleed off. when you turn the steering wheel to the right and it stops you open a valve inside the steering valve ( as long as you hold in a right turn) and that let's oil re-syncronise in the steering motor, then the steering is ok until it leaks out again. This is dangerious as the steering will re-syncronise when you are in road gear and you can end up in the ditch pretty quick. This problem used to show up when you were laying by the corn and you jumped 4 rows before you could stop. Thanks for the advice! I don't drive it in road gear, but thanks for the warning! Barney

MY EXPERIENCE TELLS ME YOU DID NOT BLEED THE STEERING VALVE LONG ENOUGH. START THE TRACTOR, OPEN THE BLEEDER AND TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT UNTIL YOU REACH THE STOP; WAIT FOR THE FRONT WHEELS TO CATCH UP; THEN CLOSE THE BLEEDER. WITH THE BLEEDER CLOSED; TURN THE STEERING WHEEL BACK TO THE LEFT ALL THE WAY; THEN OPEN BLEEDER AND TURN BACK TO THE RIGHT.
DO THIS 3-4 TIMES.
