Chris, as Steve said it was originally positive ground.
~If it is presently charging good, the ammeter reads in the correct direction & the fuel gauge reads correctly you probably should leave it alone.
~As Tony said, if it is now negative ground make sure the negative terminal on the ign coil is going to the distributor, if not change it. ~If you want to return it to positive ground you will have to swap the battery cables, swap all the wires from post to post on the ammeter, make sure the ign coil is wired positive to distributor & negative to ign switch, re-polarize the generator (after the battery cable swap) & hope the fuel gauge is original (if the fuel gauge is a replacement it might only work with negative ground & could be the reason the ground was changed to begin with).
~If you leave it negative ground you should probably put a laminated note or tag on one of the battery cables to say (NEGATIVE GROUND) so someone doesn't install a new battery(s) positive ground or try to hook a battery charger up backwards.

Chris, the tractor originally came from factory positive ground. I assume it still has the original generator and not a modern alternator? If you decide to change it, after you have switched the battery cables, but before you start the tractor, you really should polerize the generator. Take a jumper wire and momentarily touch the bat and the gen terminals on the regulator. It will arc when you do this, but that is ok. Steve
