Went out to do chores tonight and my 720 would'nt turn over.Started looking at it,pulled the oil dip stick and gas shot out of it.I figure there is about 1/2 a tank of gas in the motor,I drained three 5 gallon buckets out of it.What would cause this? Trash under needle and seat?I've heard people talk about a fuel shut off switch that could leak fuel also.How do I test this to see what I need to work on or replace.Thank you all who reply to this post.

Thank you for the info,went to JD and got parts today.Need to get the old girl going.Hate to feed big bales with my 60 6 foot bales are a bit much for it

I had the same thing happen on my 70 and the problem was a leaking diaphram in the automatic fuel shut off. My friendly Deere dealer had the replacment parts in stock.

If your tractor won't turn over, its probably got a cylinder filled with gas. If thats the case, the needle and seat are not operating properly. Also the automatic shutoff isn't shuting off. Sounds like a needle and seat replacement is in order, and the fuel shut-off should be taken off and cleaned. The rubber diaphrams are very inexpensive also, and I would recomend replacing them while you are there. I've had to clean every automatic shut-off I've got.(years of contamation)

Chances are the fuel is entering the crankcase through the carb (float hangs once in a while). The automatic fuel cut-off mentioned by Clooney is designed to prevent this. Make sure the fuel is cut off to the carb, either automatically or manually when you park the tractor any length of time.

~Ken, if it has an oil pressure fuel shut-off the diaphragms are probably leaking. You can test by pulling the oil line loose from the strainer & watching to see if gasoline runs out (it might take overnight for the leak to show up). If a leak is present new diaphragms will repair it.
