The main jet was stuck in my carb. So I threaded a screw into it, locked onto the screw w/ vice grips, & tapped the jet out. Then I cleaned everything up, cleaned the bore w/ a rotary wire brush designed for a shotgun barrel, cleaned & polished the jet, etc. But it looks to me like the jet never moves, the spring just holds it in place? So freeing it up really doesn't affect the way the tractor ran does it?

Phil, just to add to Clooney's correct comments, what you are working on is techincally not the main jet anyway. That brass item is the discharge nozzle. This acts as a small gas well or resevoir so when you suddenly speed up the engine, the carb gives the motor an extra shot of fuel so the motor doesn't stumble. The main jet system is in small holes drilled in the casting and controlled by the load jet. Steve

Phil, you're correct the spring holds it in place & it doesn't move, freeing it up doesn't do anything, but cleaning the little air bleed holes in the side of it can make a big difference.
