Gas leak problem

I have my 35 B together after overhauling it (starts and runs good) and noticed that it leaks a little gas where the elbow from the air cleaner bolts onto the front of the carburetor. This seems like a strange place for a gas leak and I can seal this joint up so it doesn't leak but what is gas doing there anyway? It isn't much but it slowly seeps out and runs down the carb onto the frame and makes a mess and will screw up the new paint job it's about to get. Any ideas on what the problem/solution is?

Bguy; I had the exact same problem on my 1935 B It seems like the Gas just creeps out after its shut off I think some spits into intake when its shutting down and stops . The gasket area is where
mine leaked I took gasket out and coated it with indian head schallac put it back in and no more seapage. I think the gasket was like a wick. These things never happen until you have new paint. All the gum and goo of lots of years plugs them up.

mrm, If you seal this joint up, where does the gas go? Does it just evaporate or will it build up and cause some other kind of problem?

bguy; My tractor would just make few drips after shut off,if I keep it wiped up for a few days it would quit. I knew I didn't have a major problem
like filling up crankcase from stuck needle or bad float it just wicked out the gasket.I always
shut off my gas to shut it down and it did this still.I think they could blow some back into intake when running then collect in tube and drip. I do know that its been 3 years I run it in the summertime and show it some and it still runs great when I get it out.I don't store over winter
with gas in it I drain them and put kerosene In them.

check the flooding in carb and are you sure turn off the gas at night when tractor not in use? the gas tank sits up can run down line to carb whatever tractor is running or not.

Steve, Yes, I have always turned the gas off and there are no signs of flooding such as starting problems, fouled plugs, etc. Thanks for the response and if you think of anything else to check let me know, Thanks.

~Bguy, that is a strange place to have a gas leak. ~Does it leak only after it is run, or after sitting all night?
~Are you sure it is all gasoline, or could it be frost that has melted from the throttle area.
~If it is actually gasoline it could be coming out of the bowl vent & into the choke area, or there could be a porosity in the casting, or it is leaking from the bowl gasket & running to the point you see it, or is the fuel tank actually leaking & the fuel is dripping on the carb & running to the point you see it.

Clooney, it seems to be gas, I didn't detect any water. When I get home this evening I am going to take the elbow off and see what I can see and learn from that. I'll report back with my findings.
