I have a JD 60. It is a great tractor! However, I am having a problem keeping the gas cap from sealing well. It constantly leaks fuel on my fresh paint. I have even bought a new cap thinking it must be something I can't see! No,that didn't even work, it still leaks. Any ideas?

I had same problem on my 720 diesel when I restored it back in 1985 JD only sells cap that is vented for later tractors.I solved my problem
by first makeing sure the tank vent tube is open
,mine had just had new tube installed, then I epoxyed the vent hole on the underside of the cap
shut. ---caution--- make sure your tank is vented
out the proper place I can't stress this enough!!

I don't know the solution to this problem, but would like to offer my sympathy. This problem must be pretty common. My 60 leaks major gas at the cap and I know another guy whose 60 does this. Filling to only half full won't help because the leak, at least with my tractor, is the result of pressure building up in the tank.

~R. Franklin, make sure you aren't using an early vented fuel cap on a late vented fuel tank.
~I the cap is correct for your fuel tank make sure the neck isn't leaking where it is soldered to the tank.
~If the tank is the late vented tank check the vent for rust or mud dobber dirt plugging the vent.
~Make sure the top of the filler neck isn't bent or distorted.
