I am in the market for another tractor. I have two long dealers, two deere dealers, and two ford dealers within driving distance so most of the tractors for sale are Deere and Ford. I really would like a Ford 3000 diesel. It is the right size and hp but not many are sold here(everybody hangs on to them) What would be a comparible (in age/price/hp/size/use) Deere to the 3000 series fords. I will be adding a loader to this tractor.

Buy whatever you find most "comfortable" and "easiest" to use.

That being said, a few comments on the comments,IYDM.

First, this is a JOHN DEERE board. Most people who post here are preferential to DEERE tractors and equipment. You should not post on a JOHN DEERE board and say, "Hi, I am a true blue FORD man and want to buy a FORD. What John Deere tractor is comparable? Perhaps the local residents of this board would have been best served had they elected to completely ignore the post rather than comment, but what do people expect? AS for the man and his AC "B", perhaps he should post, on the AC board, something to the effect that "He is a lifelong John Deere man and wants to buy a John Deere "M". and by the way is an AC "B" any good?" See what kind of reaction the AC people have, or reword it for the FARMALL board, or the OLIVER board. I think some of the other brand people would get quite a rise and you would see posts "there" similar to these here on this board.

Dressing up as a matador, entering the ring with sword and cape, are you dissapointed if the bull goes to a corner and ignores you?

If you want a utility tractor get the Ford 3000, or 4000. A Massy Ferguson 135 is a decent little tractor as well. The only problem you will run into is the price. you can buy a 100 HP tractor nearly as easily as a 50 HP tractor, because on the used market the 50 Hp is what everyone wants. A 2020 or 2030 would be my JD preference, but the ford will do the job, for less money. I was in the same place you were a few years back, and I purchased a 4020 JD because it ws as cheap as the smaller utility tractors. Good Luck, Greg H.

Thomas, You can go to "ALL MAKES TRACTOR TIPS " and click on make, put in the H.P. range and it will give you all tractors made within that range. Then go to another make, do the same thing to compare the two brands. I was going to go to the Ford board and ask a question about a 9N but if I were treated there the way you were here it ain't worth it. We do have many good people here who understand it's OK to own different colors. Sorry for the way you were treated.

What is the problem with some people. You are right this man was treated poorly. In fact I was trying to decide between a Deere M and an Allis B. Been on the Allis sight a few times asking questions and never once got insulted or had my language questioned. I want to thank some of you who responded to this man for helping me make up my mind. I not only want a good tractor I want good people to share it with. Go Orange!!!!! !

A neighbor of mine has a 1967 ford 3000 and he told me that it weighs in at about 5000 lbs. and he has the 3 cylinder gas. I dont like starting color wars but mayber you could get a farmall M.

The appropriate JD match to a Ford 3000 would be a 1020, or perhaps a 1520/1530. Any of the three would be good, parts availability is still excellent. And for what Thomas needs a tractor for (general work, with a loader), I can't think of a worse choice than a Farmall "M"---piss-poor hydraulics being only one of the many drawbacks.

Why do you say that? My Farmall M hydraulics handle a 7' front end loader just fine. (Yeah, I know, this is the green/yellow board).

Since JD was not your preferred make, I doubt you will get much help here in the "JOHN DEERE DISCUSSION BOARD". But I will tell you that a 1020 JD is comparable to a 3000. But a 3020 or a 4020 JD is a stronger tractor, especially if you are to put on a loader. All these tractors are, in my opinion, better than a 3000, and most people on this board will agree with me. But I am not going to start a color war here!!

I could care less about color. If it can do the job, parts are available, and I can afford it - then that will be the tractor I buy. And it is a sad thing to think that people in the JD board would be so #%!$%#$%@. I have used the neighbors 3000 a lot since I bought my land and I am comfortable with it and it is the right size and hp for my needs. a larger tractor will not do. Smaller maybe. But I am not familiar with the Deeres and wondered what Deere was comparible. I did not intend to offend anyone. Merely ask for advice.

My guess is alot of people dont understand humor. You asked for a comparable model to a 3000 ford. I gave you an answer in the JD 1020, in size. I had two uncles, one had a 1020, the other had the 3000. If they were parked side to side and I needed to use one, I would hop on the 1020. It seemed to me to be a more modern comfortable tractor, as I drove both of them. But that is my opinion only! It appears that you may not have ever used a 1020 JD. If one is available, and no 3000 is available, go with the JD. But a 3000 is good also. Just be comfortable with you get, and the h*ll with what we think. Hope to have helped.

Thomas, do you mean you couldn't care less or you could in fact care less as you stated?
Got to respect the language.
Toby
