Is this REALLY a '47 A?

After reading the responses from "STumped-'47 A won't start" below I am confused about my '47? A. Serial # is 578955. Has slant dash, all fuel, shutters, electric start on top of flywheel, battery is behind the fuel tanks- not under the seat, engine rails 'appear' to be cast and are the same width front to back, rear wheel centers are cast, 6 speed- Hi/Lo. The serial # listing on this site and a friend's tractor book both list it as a '47. Is it "really" a '47 or a mutant painted green? Thanks in advance for any info!

Haven't been on this board long enough to know there had been a discussion about this before. Don't think it's a mutant now;-) Thanks again for the responses, I appreciate the help!

I'm glad we know what type of "A" it is now,but
what really matters to me most is a tractor that
runs properly! So did you get it to run yet?????

M.B. I have #578719 and have been through this before on this board. My understanding is that the "new and improved" late styled A began production sometime in March of 47. Our tractors were produced before the change in 47 but are considdered "early" styled 46 Model A's. Guys out there - correct me if I am wrong? Good luck!! FSB

Early styled 47 is what you have. The 47 model year is broke up by the early and late. The change came in the middle of the year.

Will P,

You're absolutely right. The '47 Model year started at 569610 and the switch to the pressed steel frame, battery-under-the-seat, etc. was made at 584000 on 3/31/47.
