Guys, I called my JD dealer for a ported hydraulic filter cover, he says no problem, but then called me back and said he can't get one anymore. He said to just drill and tap mine. I pulled the cover off, should I drill towards the outside edge as close as possible?? inside near bolt hole?? How big 1/2" or 3/4". Thanks.

Brian, The reason that you want to dump the return oil back to the filter is that to increase your hydraulic flow of oil to the main hydraulic pump. It is very important to do this. Do not return it through the rear bung hole plug as suggested as it will decrease your flow back to the main pump by 50%. Here is another option that may work for you. On the left side of the tractor above and back of the hydraulic filter ahead of the rear axle housing there is a return oil pipe that runs from the rockshaft housing to the return oil valve housing. Remove this pipe and replace it another with a tee fitting in it or cut the pipe and braze a tee fitting in it to return your loader oil in there. It is the same circuit and will do the same thing for you. Check it out and you will see what I am referring to Good Luck Dave W.

Another reason not to use the rear bunghole is the the volume of oil that returns and splashes from it down into the rear end/hydaulic reservior
will become aerated. The first loader cycles of the loader will be fine but after half a dozen the loader will start chattering. You can see the bubbles on the dipstick. After I replumbed with a ported cover (260 loader/2440 tractor) aeration problem dissappeared.

They came with either a trip or hyd bucket, it's a quick tach, mounts to the tractor frame at two points on both sides. Mine has a hydraulic bucket, my uncle has one on a 3020 with a trip bucket. I'm not planning on digging much with it just for moving round bales. I'd of rather had a 148 or a 158 but my pocket book doesn't allow that. It is set up to use the rear remotes, but I'm switching it to use a spool valve.

I`m curious as to the model number of your loader. I remember Deeres model 37,48,58 and some variations of them, but not the "47" that your putting on the 4010. Does it mount to the rear axle, have down pressure and a hydraulicly dumped bucket?

A 47 loader is way to light for a 4010,you'll tear
it apart.There for smaller,2010-3010 tractors.

Dont drill and tap your existing cover. Its just not thick enough to do at the correct angle of the ported type. That angle keeps the returing oil from blowing directly on the filter causing premature failure. Go to a salvage yard and get the correct one.

Maybe you can get one at a tractor salvage yard with the port you need. I think the ported cover just has an extra boss on it to provide a place to drill and tap. This would be stronger than drilling and tapping your existing one if it does not have the extra boss cast into it.

If you can't get a cover that will work John Deere hydralic reset plows returned oil to the round plug on the back just above the serial no. tag you can screw a pioneer quick connect coupler in there They also use it on there 280 loaders for the self level valve although that fitting is some smaller . If they don't remember where to find it the 348 350 & 2500 hyd. reset plows used them 1\2 & 3\4 inch.
