What is the difference, if any, on a 800 and 801 hitch? Is this the same hitch on the 70 model JD as would be used on my 60. I was looking at a hitch on photo ads and it was for a 70. Thanks--

The 800 hitch was Deere's first attempt at a three point hitch. It used a claw type bracket on the implement. So dit the 801. The 801 was a weight tranfer type hitch. The hitch was mainly used on the first fully mounted plows. The 801 was an improvement. It used bell housing at the axle brackets the 800 lacked. It had telescoping draft links for easy hookup. It used a cross bar at the center link.

Richard,
The 800 hitch fit the B through the 70. I'm sure that most of the 800 hitches were converted to the 801. There is a pivot type bracket on the 801 on the rear axe so that when the plow for example pulls harder it pushes harder on the top links. Then links push up on the lift links that put down pressure on the rear of tractor. Did this work? I have often wondered.

Thanks guys for the info. Never heard about the traction trol! I just remember the 60 was the first tractor my Dad bought that had power steering--- I remember it was a great thumb saver! Thanks--Richard
