I am working on a 1940 B (81xxx) and I have a problem with the crank, clutch worked loose at sometime in the past it has since been welded on. My question is what is the difference between B1303R and B1847R.What would be the problem(if any)with using the later crank and drive disk. I already have these pieces. Thanks, Doug

deerehart been almost 10 years since worked on 40 b but i think you can use the b1847r crank with the 40 b rods if you have the crank rod journals turned down from 2.750 on the b1847r to 2.500 on the b1303r then your rods will work the only difference in the belt assembly are the operating bolts are longer to work with the wider drive disc used on the b1847r crank lynn

Deerehart, I think I have a good used crankshaft for your '40 B. I will check the number to be sure, but I am pretty sure the one I have is like you need. If you are interested email me and we can discuss it. Thanks. Mike

~DEEREHART, I haven't tried to interchange the early & later cranks but think there is a rod crank pin diameter change & the clutch drive disk is different. ~I don't know if you can use the later crank even if you use the later rods as I think the piston pins are a different diameter on the later rods. ~You are going to have to find someone that has actually done what you want to do or just lay all the parts side by side & start measuring. ~If it comes down to the piston pin sizes you can probably have special bushings made to adapt the correct pin to the rod or pistons.
~You might want to post your question on the pulling site, those guys are always swapping parts to get more power & someone there might have already done what you want to do.

I'll go do some more head scratching and measuring. Thanks again.
