I want to run a wood splitter with the hydraulics from my 52 A JD. Dose any one know if it will be fast enough to run a cylinder with a 5" piston. I am going to be making the splitter my self, and want it to be compatible with the tractor. As well as eficent, fast, and powerfull. If any one has any suggestions please reply. thanks in advance. Ron; The JD"A" should have enough flow but the pressure just isn't there I think 800-900 psi
factory but can bump up to 1000 psi only about
half what you need. I have run a homemade one on a "B" and a 750 compact but by far the best set-up
is a factory made with a 5hp engine and a two-stage pump try to find a used one and buy it as it
will probably split cirles around the "A" hydraulics and pay for itself in GAS SAVINGS.

Have you thought about using a PTO driven hydraulic pump? I know it will add a few hundred to the cost but if being fast and powerful are important then it may be the way to go. By the way Northern Tool & Equipment has the pumps I am refering to. (approx. $330.00)

I have a homemade splitter That I use on a Model 70. It has a 6 inch Cat cylinder and will split up to 4 feet. It is powerful, it is slow, but adequate. I would also advise not to run the splitter with the powertrol, lever rather use a by-passing control mounted on the splitter. If you don't use a bypass the powertrol lever will disengage each time you cycle the splitter control. The 70 has live power but I am not sure it has any more pressure than the model A. Best I can offer. Russ
