How to identify my mower?

I have a mowing machine that I need to identify the model. It has JD casted on it on several places . The only numbers on it are Z1197H and Z1196H. I not sure but I think these are just part numbers. The cutting blade is 7' long and the machine does not have the trailing wheel I've seen on most mowers. The Old man I got it from said it came off an old "M". It is a rear mount with the Quick-tach set up. Anybody got any idea how to identify this old mower? Thanks

Attached to an M without the trail wheel, most probably a model 51 sickle mower. As the Model 5 had the rear wheel.
