A friend of mine recently acquired a '41 A. We intend to start work on it soon. What is the best repair/restoration manual to get? The ones at TSC (I&T brand, I think) are kinda vague, at least my Farmall (sorry fellers) book is. Thanks a bunch. Fireman

I got a shop manual from Deere that was for a B tractor. This isn't the general manual that covers carburators and generators, it covers all the details of working on a styled B. I don't know of one for the A but the B parts generally are similar in design. Cost me about $45 but has been very helpful. I can't think of the order number now but can check it if you need it.

I agree, the best help I had was an old timer mechanic at my Deere dealership. He was known as the two-pop Pop, or Poppy. He would get me through what my manuals failed to do. Another good resource would be Clooney here at this site. He could surely talk you through any surprises you may encounter.

Call John Deere at 1-800-522-7448 to order manuals direct from them. They priced the owner, parts, and service manuals for my B at $60 for all three. Have not ordered them yet so I do not know the quality.

THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR THE B TRACTOR IS PART #
SM2004. THEY RUN ABOUT $50 WITH FREIGHT.VERY GOOD
QUALITY AS THEY ARE A REPRINT OF THE ORIGINAL MANUAL.COVERS ALL B TRACTORS FROM EARLY STYLED TO
LATE STYLED. THERE ARE NO MANUALS AVAILABLE FOR THE A OR G TRACTORS IN PARTICULAR.
