Howdy! Wanting to order new front tires for my 50. The size that's on it now is a 6.50x16. Rummy's says a 5.00x15 is what should be on it. I realize it is probably personal preference, but I wondered what you other guys are using and if anyone had any suggestions on which way to go before I order them? Are the 6.50's taller or wider or both? Not sure how the ratings work for tractor tires. Any input is appreciated! Thanks.

I agree that 5.50-16 are the tires that look best on the 50. That's whats on mine and like the other fellas said the 50 sort of noses up (I have 12.4-38's on the back)so 6.00-16 would amplify that not to mention the roll-a-matic equipped 50's clearance under the frame.

Guy ; I have several JD 50 tractors,If you have
a narrow front end with rollomatic use 5.50-16 I have one with 6.00-16 on and I think when the
rollomatic is clear up it touches the frame or
almost. Also nobody mentioned ply's if you are useing front mounted equipment{loader, ect.}make
sure you use 6ply tires or more if you can find them,4 ply will work on bare tractor fine. but if
you brushog you might want more ply's to help stop
thorns.

Thanks for the advice. I know what you are saying about the 'nose up' attitude. That is something I would like to keep to a minimum. I guess if John Deere used 5.50x16's originally then that is what they meant to be on it. I just ordered 5.50 Firestones from a local dealer. $41.30 each. Don't know if that's a decent buy or not, but irregardless, they're ordered! Thanks again to everyone for the help!!

Guy, the 50's were originally equipped with 5.50-16 tires. In my opinion, a 6.00-16 is much too big. The 50's kind of have a "nose up" attitude anyway and the 6.00's just make that worse. I would go with the original- 5.50-16. Firestone makes a nice conventional three rib tire that looks pretty good. Mike

a tire that really looks sharp, I think, is the "old" Guide Grip Tractor style by Firestone. It is still available from Miller Tire in the 6:00-16 size but the original on the 50s was the 5:50-16 size. Miller has said that the molds for the 5:50-16 size were destroyed years ago. I have 5:50-16 on my 50 in a triple rib design and someday may go to the old Firestone size if I can "justify" the somewhat higher cost.

A 5.50 x 16 tire looks better than a 6.00 x 16 in my opinion. A late B came out with the 5.50 x 16, so I assume a 50 would be the same.

Either a 5.50X16 orr 6.00X16 would be correct. I believe they left the factory with the 5.50X16's

I feel the 6:00x16 is the right size...and like the armstrong design, three rib as tractor steers easier.
