IF YOUR ARE GOING TO USE THE TRACTOR I WOULD SUGGEST REPLACING THE BEARINGS. AND ALSO ORDER
JD PARTS AND SERVICE MANUALS 1-800-522-7448.
I DON'T KNOW THE PRICES. THEY WILL BE A BETTER
HELP THAN A I&T MANUAL. AND USE THE CORRECT GEAR LUBE WHEN DONE. CAN'T FIND THE NUMBER AT HTIS TIME.

I recommend that anyone working on these get an I&T Shop manual. They are good sources for assembly and disassembly proceedures, as well as clearances, tolerances, etc. You can either get one from your dealer or contact Intertec Publications in Overland Park, KS. My book is loaned out, so I apologize for not having the phone #.. Information should be able to get you the # if you're serious about getting one.

the first step is to check the pto shaft and thrust washer, then install the lower shaft and adjust the shims for proper clearance. sometimes you have to replace the outer bearing as it may be worn out of adjustment. Then install the upper shaft with necessary bearings. I don't religiously replace all the bearings just the ones that seem worn excessively. that's about it. A good parts manual and shop manual is a must.
