I have a 46 B and it idles very very low. when it idles, it puts out a small amout of black smoke. it has a new mag, carb, and rings, and engine bearings. why does it smoke? Also, when i put it in 6th gear, it dont click in. all the others click when you put them in gear.
And one more thing.
I just cleaned out my transmission, put new oil in it. and i flushed out my power lift. i filled it up with oil. I ran it for a while that day, then the next day, i checked the oil in the power lift and it was almost empty. so i filled it up again and again. then i checked the transmission and oil came rushing out. it was a mix of transmission oil and hydrolic oil. what is the problem?
thanks,
joe

~Jd man, if you have the idle too low the carb idle mixture will be incorrect. With the throttle plate closed very little air will enter the intake system & fuel will be pulled from the inner idle transfer hole resulting in a rich mixture. Set the idle to specs 500-600 RPM & it should clear up or turn the idle mixture screw in at very low idles. Sometimes centering the throttle plate will also help & keeping the coolant temperature up will help.
~Sounds like a weak detent spring or worn detent on the 4th/6th gear shifter shaft (rail) or improper shifter adjustment causing the shifter shaft notch to not fully reach the detent.
~Depending on if the power lift pump was running & if the power-lift was used it could be a leaking pump seal, blown lift cylinder gasket, leaking valve assembly gasket, crack in the casting, or ?.
