How big do you want to go?? The 466 block bolts up to the 4010 housing , that's one option , its cheaper than boring your 4010 block to 41/2 . From there up it's CUBIC DOLLARS . You might try posting on the Tractor Pulling Forum you'll get some ideas on there for sure . JIM

Jim are talking about boring the 404 sleves or the block to take biger sleves. i havent found a machine shop around here that can cut the o rings groves in the bottem. i dont know if there is enough room to to take out 1/2" i havent taken it apart yet.

I looked into boring a 4020 to 41/2 several yrs ago they said it wasn't impossible but hard to get sleeves to seal . Reason I was going to do that was because where I pulled they had the stock appearing block rule . By the way I didn't do that I'm still at the original 404 . You can probably get special thinner sleeves so you wouldn't have to bore as much but you get into special parts and lots of $$$$ , I was trying to use stock parts from the 466 .

A 466 block from the 40 series bolts to the 4010 clutch housing , if rules allow that it is easy to get a complete engine from a combine or some other application . A friend of mine found a 466 from a 6620 combine he is putting it in a 4320 .

Brent As far as I have heard the original 380-404 JD block is no longer available new form Deere , not even the later 404 from the 30 series , so the 466 is the designated stock REPLACEMENT block from Deere . We Deere people around here are using that reason , there again check your rules . I tried to get them to allow a 466 in a 4020 couple years ago but they wouldn't let me run the inline pump , said they didn't come stock with it , I thought that was strange because they allowed 966's with 600ci and 15 mm Ambac pumps . They change things yearly now they allow P pumps and they decieded to allow 466's in old Deeres because of the replacement block rule . The 466 fits in nicely , tight fit in front , the water pump is longer but you can make it work . I don't have one but I've seen a couple done . You have to modify the hood some because the manifold and turbo sit higher up that on the 4010-20 . I have enough parts around here to put one together , I was looking for an old gas 4020 to do it to but with the farm economy and the way they change rules I gave up on it for now . If you have any more questions please ask I'll try to help . JIM

today i found a place that makes a sleeve with orings in it so i can bore the block to a 466 and put it in if there is room. i have to get apart first.

4010 D was only 380 CID from the factory. I thought they had all been rebuilt and 4020 Kits installed for 404 CID. With the design of the block I don't think You can go much over that bore without problems.
