While changing plugs on my 1944 Model BN, I spun the motor over and a drop of coolant appeared at the plug hole. The tractor runs just fine for the couple of hours use it gets each weekend. If the coolant level in the radiator has dropped. it's very little so this leak must be pretty small. Is it worth re-torquing the heads or adding a stop leak additive? There's no coolant in the oil. The spark plug did have some corrosion around the base, so I guess this has been going on for a while. Any advice is really appreciated!

Prune Picker,
I had the same problem on my 1944 B, so I'll lead you through the possibilities. First, has the tractor ever been allowed to freeze. This will be evident by welds on the head, block, water outlet, etc. If so you may find a leak anywhere. Mine leaked water into the oil through a pushrod cored hole in the block. More likely if you are getting water into the cylinder, but not into the oil you have a head crack. I have had my A and D crack around a valve. In the A I had the head repaired almost twenty years ago with no more problems. The D was cracked into the intake passage & under valve seat. The repair on it held for a few years, but eventually I had to replace the head. Bear in mind these are working tractors, not just for show so they get hot when doing field work. You may only have a small head gasket leak, in which case replacing the gasket is an easy job. While the head is off I would have it checked at an automotive machine shop. If you have only a small leak, and it sounds like you do, a good block sealer may hold it for a long time. If you do find a crack in the head, it may be repaired easily. No matter what, I would check the oil very carefully to be sure no coolant is getting into it. If you only have a small leak a good block sealer may fix it for a long time, but in the end you'll probably have to take it apart and take care of the problem. Fortunately, B parts aren't too hard to find or too expensive. LOL Paul
