I now have the lights working and the thing charges. The new trouble is that when I turn the tractor off there is a dead short that drains the battery. It is enough that the ammeter reads -30. What have I done wrong?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wes

Wes, disconnect the BAT wire from the regulator or the wire from the "A" terminal on the generator & see if it goes away. You might have a mis-wired regulator or stuck cut-out points in the regulator. If that doesn't stop the drain you will have to start disconnecting things one at a time from the non-battery side of the ammeter until you find it.
