Hi,
I've been looking into possibly putting a 3 point conversion on my 43 B and have a couple of questions. I read on an old post that said a 3 point powered by a power lift wont work well at all and should be converted to the power trol. Is this true? I'll only be using it with a brushhog and maybe a scrape. If I do have to convert is the valve housing the only change that is needed. Thanks and happy holidays. Dan.

Chris is correct. With the power lift it is either up or it is down & I would not think the rotary mower would be much fun with this option! I push snow and grade my lane using an old hand start '44 A with the power lift. For snow it is just fine & actually kinda handy. I just let the blade run on its feet. For grading gravel the feet come off & it still works OK but it is not as convenient as the Power-Trol would be.

Yes the two valve bodies are all that need to be changed. The bolts are different lengths and the top right bolt (facing the rear of the tractor) has to have a copper washer under the head instead of a lock washer oil will leak out. If you obtain a valve body off of a numbered series tractor (50, 60 etc) they had higher break pressures for the relief valves than the lettered tractors. There are differences in the check valves of the various (A, B, G, 50, 60, 70) Power-Trol units but these primarily affect the slow riase/drop feature. If you put a G power trol valve on the B & connect it to a small bore remote cylinder, the slow raise/drop features will be affected. Since you're going to use just the rockshaft I doubt you'd notice any differences.

I am not sure that just changing the valve body is all you will need to do though. There are two kinds of rockshaft housings (at least for the A's)and one has a square hole on the lower right part of where the valve body goes and one has a round hole. For the power trol, you will need the round hole because a spring has to go through it.
I had to check that out before I converted my 48A to a powertrol. It is more questionable that an earlier year would have the round hole. I would recommend paying the local Deere dealer a visit and have your casting numbers for the rockshaft housing body in hand and it would tell you what you have inside there before you tear into it. Then look to see if the computer matches that to a power trol or just to powerlift. The worst thing that happens is you have to get the whole housing to convert it.

I dont know about the conversion. But with powerlift 3pt its either all the way up or all the way down no in between.
