I just bought a 1940 JD Model B. It is not running. No spark. I noticed it has a Fairbanks-Morris Magnito. My other tractors have Wico Mag's. Where can I get info on the Fairbanks Mag? Is it original equipment? I don't see it in my parts books. Thanks, Steve

Robert's Carb just added a magneto information page. It's listed under "Technical Information."

Try Bill Lopolous (magnetoparts.com) I have JD's with the Fairbanks and Bosch Mags. He is the most reasonable I've found. For wico parts I go with K&K Antique tractors.

Steve, the F/M magneto was used on the un-styled A's & early B's but not sure if it went as late as the 40 B. I thought the cut-off was a bit earlier but am guessing there so it could have carried into the early 40's. The F/M was a problem prone magneto & is expensive to work on today. I don't have much info on the F/M mags. Is yours a DRV2B, RV2A or? If you shop around you can still find parts for the F/M but if you leave it on the tractor & leave the tractor unattended for long you won't have it long enough to worry about as they are worth quite a bit & disappear quickly. One thing to check is the lead out tower brushes, sometimes a good cleaning will bring some spark back & there is a coil available that isn't original but will fit under the cap with a little work, unfortunately I can't remember what the number was as I haven't worked on one in a few years. You might try John R. Brillman (610-2529828) as he has a few parts for the F/M.
