This morning i was on my sixty and i heard a small noise and i noticed the fan wasnt turning to power the generator or p/s or water pump. The strange thing is when i start the tractor it will spin for about 2-3 seconds then stop. is there some clutch that could be slipping or what it is a factory p/s any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

I had to pull the governor housing on mine to work the fan shaft and bearings. The chances of the fan shaft bevel gear stripping are pretty low. There is a key on the gear shaft but chances of it breaking are pretty low too. It is more than likely the PS pump coupling. Do yourself a favor and pull the radiator off the front unless you need to replace the core. I tried setting the governor housing back on the tractor with the fan shaft in place and poked a hole in the core with the end of the fan shaft. Cost me $200 to replace the core. Check the condition of the fan drive friction discs if you take the fan shaft apart. The bearings can be tricky to get back in also. This work was all done on my 60 Orchard. I just bought a 60 row crop and it has a power steering leak and a radiator core leak so looks like I will be doing this all over again. Good luck and be careful.

Chris, there is a drive coupling between the rear fan shaft & the power steering pump that usually fails, the only problem is it takes either the p/s pump input or rear fan (or both) shaft splines with it. If the generator, fan & water pump aren't turning that is usually the problem (there is a very slight chance the fan drive gears have failed but a much greater chance it is the drive coupling). About all you can do is pull the fanshaft & pump & take a look. The book says you can remove the fan & pump without moving the radiator but I have always had to move the radiator or pull it governor & all. You have pretty big job on your hands.
