My 530 will start fine with the throttle set all the way back, at an idle. If I try to advance the throttle it dies. Once the tractor runs about a half a minute or so, the throttle can be advanced and it will run fine all day. Any ideas? Anyone else seen this?

I had a similar situation with my 50 a few years back except that I couldn't get it to run faster than very low idle even after it warmed up. After several days of frustration, I decided to have the distributor rebuilt (new coil) and I never had any more trouble. It could be that the spark is so weak, it won't ignite the fuel at higher manifold pressures until the cylinders warm up.

rather than spending a lot of money on distributor rebuild, try adding electronic ignition. I've solved this problem on 5 tractors...genessee electronics is the place to look. about $110 for parts.
