JD 40 Hydraulics Problem

I had a problem with my touch-o-matic having very little lift and also settling. I replaced the piston seals and cylinder head seals, cleaned, and reassembled. I filled and ran it, and it worked well. I put a blade on it and it had only minimal lift. I ran for 2 hours to work air out, then it had no lift and lever felt like there was little pressure. Any recommendations on oil to use or how to bleed air from system? Could the pump be bad? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Andy, are we looking at a single or dual touch-o-matic?

It is a dual t-o-m.

Andy, those things are hard enough to diagnose when you have them in hand & probably next to impossible by internet. I can give you a couple of things to check though..... ..First make sure the suction line isn't pushed into the t-o-m too far as that will restrict oil being delivered to the pump, then make sure that you don't have a suction leak at one or more of the suction line connections (they are hard to find as they usually don't leak oil, only leak air in). You probably should install a 2000 lb. pressure gauge to see if the relief valve or pump isn't letting the system pressure come up to a little over 1000 lbs. You might have dirt or a piece of something stuck in the relief valve. Are both sides acting the same? if so then suspect system pressure or pump.
