I replaced a berring in the trans. on my 520,put it back togather and it locks up in sixth gear. The berring was in the very bottom of the trans. I took it apart and readjusted the shifter shafts and now it wont shift into any gears. The shift notches on the shift shafts are all lined up except for the neut. shaft. It dosent seem to line up exactly with the shifter shaft pockets.I must have a gear on one of the shafts wrong. Does anyone have a good diagram of the gear position on the shafts of a 520 trans that they would share with me? I have been working on this project for 3 months. I would be thankfull for any help. Sam

what I found a little tricky was in putting the lower shaft in to be sure to put the collar spacer correct and the outer spacer on correctly, this is all inside the transmission. You can tell by the diagram and wear areas engaging teeth area how spacers and gears go.

Sam, the way to adjust the rails if to place the 4/6 position in neutral, push down on the detent spring find neutral, then you align all the other shifters in line with the left side...also you need to adjust the high low and obtain the right clearance for over shift. The IT manual spells this out. Now is you have installed the gears in appropriately this is a problem. Look at clooney's information, pay close attention to the direction of the spacers on the lower shaft. Also installing shifter are from front to rear.

The front shaft in the trans.is the one that dosent line up. When the gear shift is back towards the seat the ball on the other end is sitting in the forks of the front shaft it changes the position of the shifter from the first gear side to the sixth, and third gear side. thanks for the reply

Sam, all the shift gates should line up in neutral. I don't know what shift rail you are calling the neutral shaft (there is no neutral shaft, all shift rails must be lined up for neutral). see Attached photo.....

Thanks again for the info. I hate to admit it but there was nothing wrong with the trans after i adjusted the high low shifter. I had the left wheel jacked up and it kept turning with the motor running. I dont know where my head was but my problem was sure in my head. Trying to make something simple hard. No one has ever acussed me of being smart or quick minded. Just call me lame brained from now on. You and your family have a merry Christmas and a hapy New Year. Thanks again Sam aka (lamebrain)
