2130 Parking and PTO brake

short version:

1. What is the clearance specification for the pin that is under the parking brake band on a 2130 tractor?

2. How much wobble is allowed on the parking brake drum?

long version: My 2130's load control shaft developed a real bad leak (about 2 gallons a day) so I went about changing the seals. When I tried to reinstall the shaft it wouldn't push through. The hole was blocked by ice cube sized chunks of what turned out to be brake lining. The only way to get all the pieces out was to remove the rockshaft housing.

When I bought the tractor last year the parking brake did not work (along with most everything else). At the time I just figured the "shoes" were worn out and I'd get around to replacing them sometime. Well, that sometime was now since I already had the rockshaft housing off. But someone had been in there before me and removed all the internal brake parts except the drum which seemed very loose. At this point I hesitated and wondered if I should just put it back together and continue to use the loader as a parking brake. But considering the loader only works until the pressure bleeds off and I'd already been chased down the hill once, I thought I'd be healthier in the long run by fixing it. So I bought the parts and got them all installed. The problem now is when the brake is set with the drum so loose on the shaft, it slides side to side or wobbles so much that it can rub the lube line on one side or the tray on the other. How much wobble is allowed on the parking brake drum? I also need to know what the clearance specification is for the pin that is under the parking brake band.

Also, the PTO brake doesn't work. Since I've got everything torn apart I might as well fix that too. Any information would be appreciated.

I have both the I&T and Deere manuals but neither one offers any information about the parking or PTO brake. Thanks in advance, Casey in MO

I can not help with the parking brake, but I changed the Independent PTO brake on a 2030 recently. You must split the tractor at the clutch housing and transmission case. The rockshaft cover also has to be off. The PTO brake is on the back (toward rear of tractor) of the transmission bearing support. The countershaft (closest to left side) comes out with the bearing support.First you have to remove the shift fork and slide the shift shaft forward enough to get at the countershaft, it does not have to come all the way out. At the rear end of the countershaft is a snap ring that has to come off. Then between the shift collar and the reverse gear (forward gear of the two inside the trans case) is a locking washer that must be turned until it lines up with the splines of the counter shaft so it can be removed. Make SURE you keep everything in order for reassembly. On the back side of the bearing support you will find the PTO brake. There is what looks like a bolt at the bottom of the bearing support, behind this is the PTO brake piston, it and the bolt have an O-ring that you should replace. The factory service manual calls for a fixture to keep the PTO shaft centered for adjusting the PTO brake band. Since I did not have one, I installed the new brake band then made sure it was not tight, yet would tighten when you moved the arm that the brake piston pushes. The service manual calls for .31-.50" clearance between the arm and the stop pin located above it. Note there are two spring loaded brass plugs behind the gear that is made on the counter shaft, they are the transmission snubber brakes, check them while you have the chance. Hope this helps
