Howdy. I think the injection pump on my 2030 is bad. When I called a pump rebuilder, he told me to time it before removing it by lining up the mark on the governor weight retainer ring with the mark on the cam ring. The pump mechanic says the cam ring cannot rotate around. The one on this one does, though. Also, another diesel 'expert' also says it is impossible for the cam ring to spin completely around. I made a mark on the cam ring, and it disappears out of the bottom of the timing window and reappears from the top of the window. Are they right and I'm hallucinating, or is it possible for the cam ring to rotate 360 degrees? Thanks for the help...JP

JP, I will try to help. First lets make sure that you are looking at the cam ring and not the weight retainer ring. One mark is on each ring that you align when timing pump. Normally the weight retainer ring rotates and the cam ring does not. On a 2030 the cam ring is the one towards the head of the pump or towards the back of the tractor in your case. The weight ring retainer ring is towards the bottom / base of the pump or front of the tractor. Now it is possible that you are seeing the cam ring move or even rotate. If it is rotating the bolt securing the cam ring to the Hydraulic advance cylinder has failed and pump damage could be serious. If the cam ring is rotating the weight retainer ring is also rotating. To position engine in the correct place for pump removal in this case pay no attention to the mark on the cam ring and watch for the timing mark on the weight retainer ring only (ring at bottom / base of pump or towards the front of the tractor). Rotate engine until this mark on the weight retainer ring is in the middle of the timing window then remove the pump for repair. Engine will be in the correct position to reinstall and time pump. Good Luck, Dave W.
