We have a 720d that won't move when you put it in the slower gears. Put it in a higher gear it moves ok. Then you can stop it, put it in a lower gear and it will take off just fine. Any ideas? The belt pulley spins, but the tractor does not move.
Thanks

I have found that if I shift from the direct side to the overdrive side with the tractor in motion (slow) or with the belt pulley turning slowly my 720 shifts fine and stays in gear. If I wait for everthing to stop, it either wont move or the transmittion gets hung between gears. Simple solution to about 20hours labor. As long as I can shift it in motion and solve the problem I am not going to tear into the tranny.

Maybe this will help you stay out of yours!

I'm assuming by lower gears you mean 1st, 2nd, 4th, and reverse, which are all direct drive. If that is the case, your direct-overdrive shifter is not moving and locking in as it should. It shifts from direct to overdrive when you bring the stick all the way to the back and swap sides of the quadrant with it. The simplest thing to do is remove the pony motor and shifting top and see what is not moving enough. The shifter stick of yoke may be worn, or the locks may be worn and not allowing it to lock in, or it could be out of adjustment. I just went through all of that good stuff on my 720 a couple of weeks ago so it is still very fresh in my mind, Hope that wasn't too depressing. Please feel free to cantact me if I can help.
