I have a copuple of questions regarding a 1943 John Deere B I bought.

1. How much oil does the crankcase hold?
2. This tractor has 15 inch tires on the front. Is this right, or should they be 16 inch?
3. Is it possible that this tractor has a distributor rather than a mag? It has a coil. Would this be origional?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Dan, the crankcase on your B is supposed to hold 7 1/2 quarts of oil. The answer to your 2nd question is 15 inch wheels with 5.00X15 tires. They went to 16 inch wheels at SN 201000. On a 43 B the wheels will be dished out with the valve stem on the outside, (used with spacers for wide spacing). That was changed somewhere around the begining of the 1945 models. Your tractor would have been shipped with a mag. I have a delco dist. on my 1945 B and it works great. It also isn't original. I bought it that way and haven't changed it back. Don't mean to discredit mags., but just not going to mess with something that is working for me. Good luck to you. Don

Thanks DP. You are right about the tires. They are dished out and are 500-15's. I believe this B has a dist. because there is a delco tag on it and the tractor has a coil. I plan on leaving it alone. This tractor hasn't run in about 15 years. I got it home yesterday and am egar to get it running. This is the first time I am working on a john deere. I have restored two farmalls in the past. Never too young to learn. Any other tips I should know? Thanks. Dan
