Spotted a 2030, don't know if it's gas or diesel. What might be a decent price and what possible problems should I look for? TIA

My Dad bought a used 2030 about 7 years ago and it is a lemon. If the one you're looking at has a Hi-Lo or Reverser, it will pay to have it checked out. Our Hi-Lo went out and the only used one I could find after several months of searching cost $1750 and broke before the warranty on it ran out. I couldn't find another used one, so I would've had to buy new- $3450.00. Got lucky and found a complete clutch housing from a factory 2030 without Hi-Lo or reverser for $1500. Watch out for 2030's that used to have a Hi-Lo and were changed over with an "eliminator kit"- reports I've heard say they cost about $1900 and leak or don't last. If the hydraulics, three-point, steering, or brakes seem to operate jerkily, it could be that the Hi-Lo is on its last legs. Also, if it has a Hi-Lo/Reverser and was ever towed, the Hi-Lo/Reverser is probably shot. When our tractor works it is a nice unit. Ours also has a tendency to wreck $1000 injection pumps and the front wheel bolts strip out. We've never had these problems with our other tractors. I'm typing this with hands that stink like diesel fuel and hydraulic oil- I've spent the last three days trying to get our 2030 running again, so I strongly suggest that you check it over carefully. As for price, I've seen them advertised for anywhere from $6500 to $9900. Personally I would avoid a 2030 with either a Hi-Lo or Reverser like an anthrax letter. Depressed? Good luck...

Purchsed one about 12 years ago - Dubuque built tractor - Do check the trans for water as the brakes run the trans/ hydraulic oil and are damaged by water (expensive fix $1,000 if I recall). If you are a big guy they are a little hard to get on and off - worse with flat top fenders. Check steering wear. Excellent mid sized tractor - Same basic tractor as 2440, 2350 & 2355. Parts are available. Also if it has a Hi-Lo shift or reverser have it checked out carefully as those repairs can be expensive also. Good luck, Sam

Gas sell for less than Diesels around here. If you plan to put a loader on it make sure it has the HD front axle. There are many configurations of 2030s, make sure it has the options you want.
I would want a USA built one, serial # will end with "T" not "L". Condition and hours play a big factor in value. $5000-7500 for gas add $1000 more for diesel. The shift shaft in transmission
that shifts park and high range is prone to breakage, the replacement shaft is redesigned.Shift boots (lack of or damaged ones)
can let water get into the transmission. The transmission oil is also the hydraulic fluid. If it set outside a lot check for water in transmisssion. Brakes are hydraulic and water in fluid will damage them too.

Found one in wisconsin I was going to purchase, wanted 7500.00 for it. If you are tall you will have a hard time fitting on tractor- so I did not buy. It does pack some power though.
Good luck- short production years, will be a collector.

I just purchased a 2030 in October. It is a diesel built in Germany (L). I paid $6000 and it's in good condition with over 5000 hours on it. I've changed all the fluids, flushed the radiator and so far I'm pretty satisfied. Runs great! I did find that at least some of the bolts are metric though.
