JD70 hydraulics

Could I some how tap into the line coming out of hyd pump and run it thru a aux valve assembly to run a dual hyd loader and be able to leave the powertrol set to operate the rocker arms? Has anyone done anything like this? Thanks

If it's trip loader just add a Baker valve to the power trol

It is a trip loader, although I would like to convert it to dual hyd someday. What is a baker valve? Thanks..... Ken

You could still convert it with a two spool valve later.A Baker valve is a after market "sandwich type" valve that goes between the power trol valve and the rockshaft housing on the the back. I have one setup on my 70,I might could send a picture. Mike

I have a JD-70 diesel tractor with a baker valve installed. I am missing one of the mechanical (4 part assy.) flow directional control valves that plugs into the power trol unit. Do you know where I can get one of these?

I think I may have one on this 70. It looks like what you described, (an assembly sandwiched behind outer powertrol with it's own lever and quick couplers) but It has not worked since I've known this tractor. The lever is locked up and I have been afraid to take it apart, not knowing what is in there with no parts diagram for the add on valve pack. I could email you a picture of it to see if it is a "baker unit". Do you have any info on repairing this unit? Thanks again.....Ken

It's a very simple valve and it doesn't work anyway,tear into it ,but first try loosening all the bolts a little first to see if the handle will free up,when I installed mine I tightened it to tight and the handle wouldn't move,and had to back off the bolts alittle,or the handle or spool maybe stuck,but it should free up with a little help,and you won't need a extra oil tank,just fill with oil and raise up and down until it runs low and refill again and it will work fine.Mike

My guess it that you're wanting to run the loader and a 3pt rear blade on the '70 at the same time.
That wouldn't leave much room for a pto pump. You could probably double 'tee' on both steel lines from the pump and then plumb to the aux valve but like Clooney said, you're probably going to run short on supply oil. By the way, those steel lines are mean to work with . Best of luck. pb

Ken: You might look at Mike H's picture of the Baker valve. I will offer a suggestion ,having seene this only done once. A fellow had a '60 and
'tee'd' into the steel lines about half-way between the platform and the bend (toward the pump)-pointed them up, and mounted a joy-stick valve on the light bar and plumbed to it. (the joy-stick gave him verticle lift on the loader and bucket tilt also.) He mounted a two gallon reservoir on the loader frame above the axel to suppliment the powr-trol supply. It looked like a plumber's nightmare . The joy-stick stayed with the tractor and the reservoir stayed with the loader (a lot of quik-couplers). He left the spool plugs in and the powr-trol ran the rock shaft so that he could use the rear blade. It's been many years since I saw this and I can't say that I would attempt it myself. I remember that the tee's were steel and were fitted and then braised in off of the tractor and there was a lot of hose and connections . It took a lot of Goldberging but it did work. Personally, I'd rather put the rear blade on a late "A" with live hydralics. (that would give me an excuse to get another tractor to re-build) Lot's of luck. pb

Ken, you should be able to do that if you use an open center aux. valve & don't use your rockshaft & loader at the same instant. Just plumb the open center outlet to go to the power-trol. You probably will need a bigger remote fluid reservoir also. It will probably be kind of slow, I usually use a PTO pump to run the loader as long as I have a live PTO. That 70 will be a handful with a loader due to the high speed 1st & reverse, especially if no power steering.
